Even though Spring collections are just starting to be rolled out in stores, I can say that I haven’t been terribly impressed by any of the offerings. It seems like my usual critique (too many florals and pastels) of Spring fashions is holding true. However, that won’t stop my shopping habit! Since I was a huge fan of both the Prada and Jil Sander S/S11 collections, I picked up a couple items from ASOS clearly inspired by them. That banana crop top is pretty much the best thing ever and I plan to wear it with a short, full skirt I got from Jibri. The blazer from SimplyBe is the perfect spicy brown color but I’m not sure what I’m wearing it with yet, same with the Evans chinos.
Since I’ve decided that this season is all about crop tops and sheer shirts and I’m not seeing exactly what I want from plus size retailers, I’ve turned my attention to eBay and Etsy. It also comes in handy when you want to participate in a trend but don’t want to spent a lot of money on it. For instance, I’m loving the midi length pleated skirts that ASOS has in stock but I’m not paying $70 for it, so I went on ebay and found both a red and a black one for $5 and $8 respectively. Talk about a deal! So what is at the top of your Spring shopping list?
Since today is the second birthday of the blog, I figured I’d be awkward on camera for you all to see. I totally didn’t realize that you’d be able to hear the fan on camera but you can. Oh well. I also mention how to enter the Damn You Alexis giveaway.
ps. The Damn You Alexis giveaway ends midnight EST March 29, 2011. Good luck!
And the winner is…. BECCA TEE!
Congrats! Just email me with your shipping and size information so we can get your item sent out to you.
I collect a ridiculous amount of coffee table books, most of them being graphic design related. However, lately I’ve been able to expand my collection a bit with a few fashion books. I never bought them because someone else would and then scan and post images online but there’s nothing better than having a physical copy. Now I won’t wax poetic about how important books are but as a designer, examining the details of the book is just as interesting as the content inside. This book in particular is Gothic: Dark Glamour, written by Valerie Steele who is also Director and Chief Curator at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, who put on an exhibition of the same name that ran from 2008 to 2009. I wanted to post this book because not only does it serve as design inspiration for me, it’s also full of amazing fashion inspiration.
Finally, the weather has been decent enough for me to break out this dress that I bought way back in September. Because of the inserts, I didn’t want to cover it with a jacket so I had to wait until Winter wasn’t so terrible that I could actually wear a sleeveless dress without dying immediately. I randomly stumbled upon it on eBay one night while searching for ‘plus size leather’ and knew I had to have it. The best part is that is was about $18 if I remember correctly, which isn’t a bad deal at all. It’s heavy knit and the inserts are faux leather which give the otherwise basic dress a bit more life. I could do without the waist insert that goes around the entire dress but whatever.
Also, new wig! I’ve had it for a while but decided to break it in yesterday. Coincidentally, it’s actually about the same length as my real hair minus maybe an inch or two.
I’ve been working nonstop for the past two weeks and finally got a bit of time to breathe today so I wanted to post what I wore. Now usually, I look a mess (the perks of working from home) thus the blog being super quiet lately but today I put some effort into getting dressed. Both the blazer and dress are things I found at my local thrift store, for $4 each. This dress is one of my favorite things in my closet because when the little sparkles catch the sunlight, I’m practically a discoball which is amazing. I rarely wear the blazer because… well, it’s bright blue but I thought with all the sparkles in the dress, it’d look pretty cool. This was difficult to photograph because the sun hates me or something, but I did my best.
Oh yeah, you see that lipstick color that’s not black or plum? I bought it recently and since I paid $4 for it, I have to get my money’s worth. The dark lipstick will return soon enough. And my new glasses? $10 from House of Sunglasses. I’m getting myself used to wearing them everyday and putting my prescription in them this week. Now maybe I won’t be squinting all the time.
