374 / ootd: starting over

So it’s been a while… the good news is that 2012 will definitely see a resurgence in blog activity. I’m sure I’ve said it previously but then I disappeared again haha but really, this time it’s for real. Nothing much has changed since I’ve last blogged except my address. I stopped crashing at Brittney’s and got my own place and now it’s basically me vs. the self-timer. Also, after almost 6 months, I was finally reunited with most of my wardrobe last week so I feel complete in a way. The outfits that I wear now are a better representation of where I’m at and what I’m into, whereas earlier it just a mashup of whatever I had in my suitcase or bought recently online. Blahblahblah enough of that, onto the fashions!!!

I’m still very much into long lengths and I bought this skirt on Etsy a few months back and have paired it with everything from crop tops to sweaters. Even though it’s wintertime here in Chicago, I refuse to give up on my sheer tops so I just layered it under a faux leather vest and skinny bowtie from ASOS. The sheerness keeps the outfit from being too covered up and stuffy. This Cast of Vices leather bag is my new favorite. I’m not a bag girl at all but I couldn’t pass up this one that is based on the plastic thank you takeout bags but is done is the softest lambksin leather.

373 / ootd: sequins + pvc

The amount of time left to wear this super short pvc skirt is dwindling the more the temperature drops and wind picks up. I figured I’d take it out for a spin while crawling some bars this past week. It was a texture explosion as I paired it with this leather-like top from forever21+ (which you’ll be seeing in the next post as well) and sequined blazer from yours. Because there’s so much leg on display (and because I knew there was a good chance I’d be drunk), I opted for my creepers instead of any sort of wedge/heel.

372 /ootd: SHEERED

A couple weeks ago I went back to DC to gather the rest of my clothes to ship here to Chicago and one of the most exciting things there was this floor length sheer stripe skirt I got from Jibri. I originally ordered it back in May and literally the next week, I came to Chicago (and we all know that story) so basically I finally got my hands on it 5 months later. Again, the wintertime was not going to deter me from wearing this skirt out around the city. I threw on some semi-sheer tights and called it a day. I’m not one to pair shorts under a sheer skirt, it just looks weird. I also paired it with this leatherette top from Forever21+ to add some toughness to the skirt. Simple and chic~

371 / OOTD: LEATHER STUDDED

I think I’ve stated on more than one occasion that I’m not much of a fan of Torrid or Forever21+. However, the one thing that keeps me going back to Torrid is the fact that they carry the Tripp skinny jeans. When this version with the faux-leather patches went online, I knew I had to order them. This red leather jacket from F21+ is the only item I’ve ever purchased from them that I really really loved. The jacket is actually really heavy and doesn’t feel flimsy/cheap which is always a concern when shopping there. It’s definitely the best thing they’ve ever offered.

370 / OOTD: FLAMINGOS + PVC

In my previous vlogs, I professed my love for PVC. It’s one the main reasons why I love fall so so much. I scored this super short full skirt on eBay for about $15 and I was really excited that it’s finally cold enough to wear it. When I say it’s short, I mean no-deep-breaths short which basically means that it was made for me. I picked up this flamingo printed button-up from the ASOS main range and thought it’d make a perfect pair with the skirt. The wedges are some that I picked up from Ami Clubwear and they’re perfect.

369 / MORE FALL 2011 SHOPPING

Sidenote: Do not judge the Hannah Montana soundtrack playing faintly in the background, Miley is amazing!!!

It’s hard to take outfit photos now that it’s getting dark so much earlier, but I’m working on a new setup so that I’ll still be able to update with outfits and such. For now, here’s a quick video showing some recent purchases (this video was filmed this past Tuesday). From the last videos, I got a few comments asking me to post links to the pieces that I’m showing so I’ll add those below for anyone who is interested.

- asos flamingo shirt
- asos curve ovoid dress
- asos curve polka dot skirt
- gisela ramirez
- lip service dress
- glitter + satin wedges

368 / OOTD: GIVE ME THE CREEPS

(this post is copied from xtinathegreat.com so some of you may have seen it before.)

Originally I wasn’t going to post this outfit as it’s pretty similar to my previous outfit post (and the sun was setting) but at the last minute, I decided to. I’ve been wanting to add a few plaid pieces to my wardrobe and I found this wool blazer on eBay for about $8. It has metallic thread woven throughout so it’s basically perfect. The skinny velvet bowtie is one that I got at ASOS and I love that it helps to add to the menswear vibe of the overall look. As mentioned in the last outfit post, I’m loving cropped pants this season and the proportions of shorter pants paired with longer tops/jackets. This is just a simple white button up shirt that I got from Avenue paired with the extra-short Tripp skinny jeans I got from Torrid. Lastly. my creepers are 2 inches of perfection, it’s like walking on air all day long. I love love love them.

367 / FALL 2011 SHOPPING LIST

this post is copied from xtinathegreat.com, so some of you may have seen it before.

It’s taking me way longer than I planned to put together a fall 2011 shopping list but in the meantime, I’ll just post some things that I’ve purchased recently. Let’s start with the shoes!

Ok before I go any further, let me express how much I despise heels without platforms. There is absolutely nothing more uncomfortable than heels without a platform, and with that being said, above are two pairs of heels I bought without platforms. Let me explain… now I love platform heels and wedges but I’ve noticed lately that they seem to be getting taller and chunkier (read: uglier) which isn’t my thing. So when I came across the above pairs, they seemed really refreshing and I had to buy them. Paired with cropped trousers, I think it’ll be a nice contrast to the legions of people in flares and 3 inch platforms.

I hate Forever21+, I really do. I believe them and Torrid are currently fighting for the number one spot on my shit list. However, when I saw the leatherette tank, I thought it would be a cheap way to add some interesting texture to my wardrobe. Also, who could ever turn down a red studded (faux) leather jacket?! Let’s hope it actually fits…

This jacket is interesting. Originally it was spotted at City Chic and a lot of people (myself included) really loved it at first sight. Then randomly, I came across the very same jacket featured on the homepage of Ashley Stewart last month. See here’s the thing, we all know the jacket isn’t going to be of amazing quality, it’s 100% Polyurethane I believe. Apparently City Chic thought that because it’s so trendy!!! and avant-garde!!! that someone was going to pay $139AU ($146 USD) for that shit. C’mon now, we’re fat, not desperate. I bought that jacket from Ashely Stewart for $45, which is around how much it should cost. Period.

So much for a City Chic exclusive, right?

Anyway, listen to me rant, curse and show you what else I’ve purchased all while being an idiot.
(Skip to 3:30 if you don’t care about what’s going on with Musings.)

366 / ootd: back like I never left

(this post is copied from xtinathegreat.com, so some of you may have seen it before.)

It has finally cooled down enough to where I’m not melting into a puddle every time I step foot out of the house, therefore I’ve been easing back into wearing layers. This outfit isn’t anything special but it’s a precursor to what some of my fall 2011 wardrobe will include, namely the cropped pants and (amazing!) Kanye loafers. I’ve been dying to get my hands on a pair of cropped trousers of any kind. I purchased two pair from Curve and to make a long story short, they’re absolutely TERRIBLE. So I turned to the only jeans that have never let me down, the Tripp skinny jeans from Torrid and took advantage of their current BOGO sale and purchased two pairs in extra short to give the desired effect. My normal inseam is 34 inches and these have an inseam of 28 inches I believe. They really are the best jeans ever and even as they fade, they still look good!

In regards to the loafers, I saw this outfit that Kanye wore a while back and fell in love with the suede loafers he wore. I was determined to get my hands on something similar and was excited when I came across these on ASOS from the brand River Island. Since I walk about 98% of the places I go here in Chicago, I have to be more practical when it comes to my footwear selection. While I’ll always love my heels and wedges, I won’t be that girl on the train in 5 inch platforms. Therefore, I’ve been buying lots of cute loafers and ballet flats for the fall.

365 / OOTD: SWELTERING IN CHICAGO

It’s really really hot and almost impossible to find something decent enough to wear to work without being too inappropriate. I posted about this dress way back in May and after some back and forth with ASOS, I finally got my hands on it two weeks ago. When it first arrived, I wasn’t a fan of it. There was something about it that I didn’t like but shit got real when I realized I needed to do laundry this morning. Therefore, I took this out for a test spin and surprisingly I started to fall in love with it, especially the cutout on the back. It was definitely worth the $35 or so that I paid.
