348 / OOTD: BLACK & WHITE IN BLACK & WHITE

Let me tell you why I love the internet. When I first saw this dress at ASOS, I knew I had to have it. In case you didn’t know, my life’s goal is to be the fat, black version of Wednesday Addams and possessing this dress would get me one step closer to that coming true. By the time I was ready to order it, poof it was gone. By the magic of Tumblr, I saw that Ariel was looking to either sell or return the one she purchased and voila, it now has a permanent home in my closet. It does run big so whenever they restock it, keep that in mind if you decide to order it.

Because I decided to wear my platform mary-janes from Forever21, I had to wear my tights from Torrid with a huge rip going down the right leg. I cannot, in good conscience, pair mary-janes with a empire waist dress without adding something to toughen it a bit. Enter big hair, black lips and torn tights.

347 / OOTD: BLACK & CAMEL

Sometimes I like to experiment when getting dressed. Having watched The September Issue and loving the texture editorial they shot, I decided to try and figure out a way to incorporate some of that into an outfit. I also had to find a way to wear the peg leg trousers from ASOS Curve because they’ve just been sitting there unworn since I ordered them over a month ago. So two birds, one stone and for only the third time ever (I think), I’m posting an outfit featuring pants.

The sweater I got from Evans forever ago and the faux fur stole is from Torrid. It was a last minute addition after i looked in the mirror and thought a black and beige/tan/camel outfit was so boring so I threw it on and ended up liking the way it looked when tied around my waist. So I guess it looks more like a furry fannypack which is a-ok in my book.

343 / OOTD: BLACK SWAN

One of the few things I picked up in the ASOS Curve sale was this asymmetric tutu skirt that I had been eyeing. I’ve been searching for a tea length black tulle skirt but until I get my hands on it, this skirt will have to do. I’m not too fond of the asymmetric part of it because I think it needs to be more dramatic. As of now, the hem simply looks like it was cut crooked, there needs to be more of a difference between the lengths. Regardless, it fills a void in my wardrobe and I’m sure I’ll be wearing it often. The blazer is one that I’ve had forever, I scored it from the thrift store a few years ago and I’m wearing a simple white Hanes t-shirt. The necklace is one that I picked up from H&M in San Francisco back in 2009, it’s copper colored and kind of heavy. I don’t wear necklaces that often but this one was begging to be worn with this black and white ensemble.

320 / OCTOBER’S WISHLIST

Although October is halfway over, I couldn’t pass up a chance to put together most of the items that I have my eye on. One of hardest things for me to resist every Fall is the influx of cute jackets and coats. Every year, without a doubt, I purchase at least 3 or 4 new ones (just last night, I bough the cutest leather cape!).

For the first time, I’m on the hunt for the perfect pair of trousers! It’s well-known that I’m not much of a pants-wearer. I own them but they hardly get much wear these days, however I did re-discover a pair of gray treggings from Evans that I’m love with again. Besides that, here are some of the things I need in my closet!

302 / FALL 2010 TREND ALERT: MILITARY & UTILITY

Continuing on with the top trends for Fall 2010, up next we have the military trend. Now true, this look has been seen on the runways for last few years but this season, it has evolved to be more utilitarian, functional and understated rather than the extravagant styles we’ve seen in the past from designers like McQueen and Balmain. There’s less of the once coveted marching band jackets with shoulder detailing and more of the minimalism of a shirt dress. A lot of the pieces are much easier to wear and incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Cargo pants and shirt dresses in navy, camel and olive are key pieces as well as the aviator jacket.

What do you all think of the military trend? Are you over it?

296/ OOTD: MAXIMUM PLAID

Its finally starting to feel like Fall is coming. In celebration of this, I broke out one of my favorite plaid shirts and paired it with my favorite maxi dress. I also finally wore these black ankle boots I was sent by Evans a while ago. They have studded and chained detailing on the back so they don’t compete with all of the other random metallics that I usually throw on my hands and arms.

As evidenced by this outfit and the previous one, I must add more black maxi dresses to my wardrobe asap. So perfect and so versatile.

262 / OOTD: WEDNESDAY ADDAMS-APPROVED

In the short time that I’ve owned this ASOS Curve maxi dress, it has become my go-to dress, my default of sorts. I’ve channeled my inner 90s grunge and worn it with plaid shirts and combat boots. I’ve dressed it up with a black blazer and heels. There’s so many looks you can achieve with it, I love experimenting. I was thinking of the Fall 2010 Marc Jacobs collection and his play on proportions when I put this outfit together. The long, draped effect of the vest over the maxi dress is a combination that I would never normally put together. However, I’m really into longer lengths lately and I’m liking how it turned out.

Earlier this week, a few old co-workers and I got together with Jose Cuervo and celebrated our recent successes. Upon my arrival, one of the first things mentioned was that I looked like Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family, a comparison that I very much so welcome. It was mentioned that my sudden fixation with long dresses and skirts was weird because normally (and especially when we all worked together), I was the queen of short skirts. I guess its all about evolution, right?

253 / MAY’S WISHLIST

In 11 days, I’ll be turning the big 2-5. In order to celebrate that correctly, I’m making a wishlist that I can email to all my friends and family in hopes that they’ll make my wishes come true. In reality, they’ll probably hit the ‘report spam’ button and continue on with their day. These are the items currently atop my May wishlist. The majority of them come from ASOS – the main range, the men’s range and ASOS Curve. They really have been taking my money lately!

243 / OOTD: SLAY BIG GIRL, SLAY!

Photobucket

I don’t know if people know this about me, but a good portion of my wardrobe is band tees and hoodies. On any given day, you’ll find me in a band tee, jeans and a pair of Chuck Taylors. I scored this amazing Slayer shirt last week while browsing the clearance racks of Hot Topic. I may be in the minority, but I usually prefer to get my band shirts from the shows I attend. However, this was too good to pass up as it was only $6! I paired it with this short and flirty full skirt from ASOS Curve and it has pockets! I LOVE dresses and skirts with pockets so that was a lovely surprise! Because the skirt is made of jersey, it kind of looks like I’m wearing one long t-shirt but they’re two separate pieces.
