It’s really really hot and almost impossible to find something decent enough to wear to work without being too inappropriate. I posted about this dress way back in May and after some back and forth with ASOS, I finally got my hands on it two weeks ago. When it first arrived, I wasn’t a fan of it. There was something about it that I didn’t like but shit got real when I realized I needed to do laundry this morning. Therefore, I took this out for a test spin and surprisingly I started to fall in love with it, especially the cutout on the back. It was definitely worth the $35 or so that I paid.
The camera cut off during the first one, so the second one is just a continuation. Below are a few of the items that I mentioned in the video, you can click the links and it’ll take you to their respective sites. Also mentioned, Brittney’s brand-spanking-new blog Born in Sequins!
As I previously mentioned, I’m all about fat girls in crop tops this Summer. I picked up this top in the mid-season sale at ASOS (it’s from the main range, size UK18/US14) and it’s pretty much perfection. Since the wind was blowing a bit today, I layered it over my lace bodysuit from Evans to keep things covered a bit. This red pleated skirt was another eBay score, it was only $5 and it serves as one of the few colorful items in my closet.
These platform mary-janes from Forever21 are the most uncomfortable pair of heels I own. I’m not sure if it’s because of the arch or the actual height of the heel (5 inches) but they are only for those outings where I won’t be standing for long periods of time. It sucks because they are super cute but really unbearable after a few hours.
It finally feels like Springtime outside and the perfect way to celebrate that is by debuting these shorts I picked up in a Torrid clearance sale a while back. I usually don’t pay much attention to their sales but these were $4.99 and I couldn’t resist.
Although (one of) my favorite parts of my body is my legs, I never wear shorts. The reason? They seem way too casual, I always feel like shorts lend themselves to either washing the car or going to the beach/pool. Nothing more, nothing less. I decided that I needed to find a way to put them into rotation in my wardrobe so I paired them with my trusty oversized sheer shirt. Added a slight pop of color (I’m all over tan/camel colors this Summer!) with a camel belt and satchel with black oxfords from the Evans sale. The sun has been beaming so hats are a must as sun damage is not on my must-have list this year. This is still a bit casual but it doesn’t look like I’m going to walk the dog or something so… I deem it a success.
Even though Spring collections are just starting to be rolled out in stores, I can say that I haven’t been terribly impressed by any of the offerings. It seems like my usual critique (too many florals and pastels) of Spring fashions is holding true. However, that won’t stop my shopping habit! Since I was a huge fan of both the Prada and Jil Sander S/S11 collections, I picked up a couple items from ASOS clearly inspired by them. That banana crop top is pretty much the best thing ever and I plan to wear it with a short, full skirt I got from Jibri. The blazer from SimplyBe is the perfect spicy brown color but I’m not sure what I’m wearing it with yet, same with the Evans chinos.
Since I’ve decided that this season is all about crop tops and sheer shirts and I’m not seeing exactly what I want from plus size retailers, I’ve turned my attention to eBay and Etsy. It also comes in handy when you want to participate in a trend but don’t want to spent a lot of money on it. For instance, I’m loving the midi length pleated skirts that ASOS has in stock but I’m not paying $70 for it, so I went on ebay and found both a red and a black one for $5 and $8 respectively. Talk about a deal! So what is at the top of your Spring shopping list?
Let me tell you why I love the internet. When I first saw this dress at ASOS, I knew I had to have it. In case you didn’t know, my life’s goal is to be the fat, black version of Wednesday Addams and possessing this dress would get me one step closer to that coming true. By the time I was ready to order it, poof it was gone. By the magic of Tumblr, I saw that Ariel was looking to either sell or return the one she purchased and voila, it now has a permanent home in my closet. It does run big so whenever they restock it, keep that in mind if you decide to order it.
Because I decided to wear my platform mary-janes from Forever21, I had to wear my tights from Torrid with a huge rip going down the right leg. I cannot, in good conscience, pair mary-janes with a empire waist dress without adding something to toughen it a bit. Enter big hair, black lips and torn tights.
One of the few things I picked up in the ASOS Curve sale was this asymmetric tutu skirt that I had been eyeing. I’ve been searching for a tea length black tulle skirt but until I get my hands on it, this skirt will have to do. I’m not too fond of the asymmetric part of it because I think it needs to be more dramatic. As of now, the hem simply looks like it was cut crooked, there needs to be more of a difference between the lengths. Regardless, it fills a void in my wardrobe and I’m sure I’ll be wearing it often. The blazer is one that I’ve had forever, I scored it from the thrift store a few years ago and I’m wearing a simple white Hanes t-shirt. The necklace is one that I picked up from H&M in San Francisco back in 2009, it’s copper colored and kind of heavy. I don’t wear necklaces that often but this one was begging to be worn with this black and white ensemble.

November is one of my favorite months because the amount of sales that take place is ridiculous. In preparation for the holidays, you’re sure to snag some amazing deals on pretty much any and everything. The wedged sneakers are at the top of my list. I came across a different pair last week but sadly they didn’t have my size. I’m determined to add these to my collection, they can be my new sensible (but still badass) wedge.
Although October is halfway over, I couldn’t pass up a chance to put together most of the items that I have my eye on. One of hardest things for me to resist every Fall is the influx of cute jackets and coats. Every year, without a doubt, I purchase at least 3 or 4 new ones (just last night, I bough the cutest leather cape!).
For the first time, I’m on the hunt for the perfect pair of trousers! It’s well-known that I’m not much of a pants-wearer. I own them but they hardly get much wear these days, however I did re-discover a pair of gray treggings from Evans that I’m love with again. Besides that, here are some of the things I need in my closet!
