In a recent post I mentioned that I placed my first Carmakoma order since they were having their big end-of-the-season sale. Since arriving, I’ve been wearing the dresses nonstop as they serve as great throw-on-and-go pieces (I’m sure everyone knows by now just how much I hate mornings). This dress is the Gull and I bought it in an XL but I should’ve sized down to an L for a more fitted look. Because it’s too big and made of knit, it doesn’t really have a shape without a belt. However, I love love love the leather patches on the shoulder and the fact that it has a hood. The overall length is perfect and the fact that that back has an additional two inches or so added is great because it’s annoying to have the back of your skirt/dress be higher than the front because of all the junk in the trunk.
I paired the dress with my new favorite thigh-highs from Hips & Curves. They have a backseam which makes them that much better. Prepare to see them a lot.

If I could wear one plus brand for the rest of my life, it would undoubtedly be Carmakoma. I don’t think its hard to see why. All black everything? Check. Interesting details? Check. Layers and draping? Check. The gang is all here!
Its really weird that, as of now, I don’t actually own any Carmakoma pieces. My chance to rectify that situation is only 9 days away when this collection drops.

“Carmakoma has fallen in love. With Barcelona. The romance leaves a clear mark on the new collection from the Danish designer brand for curvy women. The collection radiates of the mix between a romantic ambiance of Barcelona’s small historic streets and the vibrating atmosphere of the city’s fashionable, urban clubs where trendy young girls in tough leather boots and and light dresses send sexy looks to courting guys.
As always the style of carmakoma’s new collection is a combination of the rock chick coolness and the classical, feminine look, but this time to designers really struck genius by adding vibe from Barcelona’s holiday spirit, urban life, and red carpet glam.”
I have to admit that its a bit weird writing about Spring collections as I’m currently wearing 2 layers of clothing while wrapped in the deliciously hideous blue snuggie. With that being said, the new Spring collection from the Danish duo is absolutely beautiful. What I love about each of their collections is that while they’re feminine, they aren’t overly frilly and fussy. There is always a contrasting tough yet soft feeling in each piece and that always makes for an interesting collection. Their latest offering is no exception and is definitely their best yet! They have perfected what I like to call the ‘effortlessly chic’ look. In the warmers months, you just want something that you can throw on and go, without having to think too much about it. These pieces are perfect for that. That pink tiered dress is the epitome of springtime perfection. It can be paired with heels for a more dressy look or flats for more casual chic. I have to add it to my wardrobe!
Below are a few images from their Spring/Summer lookbook. Take a look and let me know what you think! I haven’t posted them all, so you can view the rest here! The clothes aren’t up for sale yet on their site but they should be available for purchase in the coming days!

A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that Carmakoma was having a massive sale to make way for their new Fall 2009 collection. Well ladies, the time has come! Much like their earlier collections, the color palette is made up mostly black, but there are also pops of colors like purple, gray, pink and metallic gray. The aesthetic is very much a mix of masculine and feminine and just the fall 2009 Boyfriend trend (to be profiled later in the week), there’s many pieces that can worn slouchy to give off that effortless vibe. Also, there is a coat with a high collar that I am dying for!
I’ve selected a few pieces from the lookbook to showcase below. What do you think of this collection?

Check out the rest of the lookbook at here! Also there are lots of other goodies on the site like behind-the-scenes videos and more!

Meet Heidi Lykke and Angelica Weiss, the designing duo behind Denmark’s Carmakoma. The two met in design school in 1997 and got along so well, they decided to create a line of their own. I first learned about their line from browsing through fashion blogs. I was instantly attracted to the monochromatic feel their first collection had. I, as a lover of all things black, loved the head to toe looks with bits of added textures.
Carmakoma’s “style is rough and feminine, and all the collections are targeted at curvy women with charisma. It is of key value for carmakoma to create designs that give opportunity to style the clothes to suit your own mood and personality. The inspiration comes mainly from music and the urban life of the world’s metropoles, and all the clothes are created with special focus on slimming cuts and effects. The quality is high, the prices are competitive and all the collections reflect the hottest current trends.”
It definitely seems as though their vision is right up my alley. If its right up yours too, then you’re in luck. Their new autumn/winter 2009 collection launches this Saturday, August 1st. In preparation for that, they are now offering 70% off of everything. Yes, you read that correctly – 70% off! Everything is currently priced between $20-$40. I am definitely placing my order as I’ve had my eye on a few things (seen below).

After snooping around on Twitter, I noticed that they featured small sneak peeks of lookbook images on their page, which I’ve posted below. I’m excited to see the entire collection this Saturday! What do you guys think of Carmakoma?
