I have always been a big fan of the underwear as outerwear look. The moment I saw strappy mesh teddy at Torrid (now sold out) a few months ago, I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately, the fit was really weird so I cut it apart, threw away the bottom and kept the bra portion of it. I usually wear it like I did today over my lace bodysuit that I got from Evans to add more texture. Playing with texture is one of the ways I try to keep my all-black outfits from being boring. I’ve worn this Jibri skirt many, many times here on the blog and that’s because it’s one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. I paired it with my trusty Beth Ditto for Evans biker jacket that is another wardrobe staple.
Also as stated before, I know absolutely nothing about makeup. However after reading one of my favorite beauty blogs, Accidental Beauty, I decided to try this NYX lipgloss in Maroon. It’s always hard to find the perfect shade of red and I was/still am a bit unsure as I tend to prefer darker colors but my Tumblr family voted it as a yay and I trust their judgment lol.

Because I work for myself, its sometimes hard to find occasions to dress up when I’m usually doing mundane things everyday like running errands and uh, tweeting. However, you don’t always need a reason to break out your highest heels and dramatic makeup. This outfit isn’t what I’d consider over-the-top but I do love wearing black lips to the post office or the grocery store during the day.
I decided I would try to build an outfit around these black mary-janes that I got from Forever21 since I have yet to wear them. In my mind, they lend themselves to more cute-sy outfits and I own nothing of that sort so I dug out this hat I got from Torrid forever ago and paired them with my black silk kaftan. My biker jacket from Evans completes this girly-yet edgy-funeral-chic thing that’s going on here. There was no real idea or direction for this outfit and sometimes that’s the best direction to go in. Let it flow and such.

For the last two days or so, the weather has been pretty terrible. Weather be damned because I needed to wear this sheer button-up shirt that I scored on ebay last week for $5. I threw it on with my bandage miniskirt from Evans, Jeffrey Campbell Clinic wedges and randomly threw on this faux fur stole from Torrid. It totally looks like I forgot to put on pants and I’m digging it. I never miss a chance to show off my legs. Ever.

After about ten days of rain, the weather is finally nice and chilly! We had a brief bit of Fall-like weather but unfortunately that was followed by multiple 90 degree days. Now that Fall weather is really, truly here, I wanted to wear this jumpsuit I bought from Evans last week. In typical Christina behavior, I never really understood the love for harem pants but now that they’ve been done and are on their way out of fashion, I love them. I have been searching for the perfect slouchy pair and I’m pretty sure this jumpsuit is it. I bought it a few sizes too big so that I would get the amount of drape that I want. Because it has an elastic waistband, I can wear it as low or high as I want, in today’s case the band is around the lowest part of my hip.
One of the main reasons that I have been needing a pair of harem pants is because I had this idea that they would be PERFECT when worn with some knee high/over-the-knee boots. Going from the super draped thigh area down to the slim fit of the boots, this would be a new silhouette for me and I wanted to see how it looked. I’m happy with the way it turned out and I’ll be experimenting with these proportions a lot more this Fall, for sure.
Also, can we talk about these boots for a second? They are gorgeous glittery masterpieces. I couldn’t get a shot to accurately show the glitter but they sparkle! I admit, I wish the heel was higher as I’m not too fond of mid-heels but other that, they’re almost perfect. The other downfall is that they don’t have an elastic panel in the calf area so if your calves are larger than 19 inches or so, these probably won’t fit. I now have four pairs of over-the-knee boots and these are a close second to the Torrid Amanda Thigh-Highs that I posted yesterday.

Since its been pouring raining here in DC for what seems like all of eternity, I took pics indoors today. I wanted to show off my new thigh-high boots that I got from Torrid, because they are that amazing. I previously wrote about how this Fall I wanted to incorporate some classic Thierry Mugler into my wardrobe and these boots allow me to do just that. They simply ooze sex appeal and fill a void in my ever-expanding over-the-knee boot collection.
Because of the limited space, I couldn’t get the entire boot in one shot but I’m wearing the Amanda Thigh-High Boots and I actually sized up and got an 11 because I wasn’t sure how the thigh area would fit. As shown on the site, they have three buckles on the back of the thigh that you can adjust and get the perfect fit. They are really comfortable and seemingly well-made. Unlike the other knee high boots (such as the popular Ashley boot from last Fall), these have a good sole on them and not that cardboard thin stuff that wears through after two wears. These will definitely be a wardrobe staple this Fall!

I’ve been in New York since Thursday and enjoying every minute of it. One of my fave twitter friends Brittney (@ninoBROWNN) arrived in town and we’ve been laughing and shopping ever since. See how technology brings everyone together?
Because yesterday evening was Fashion’s Night Out, we decided to run out to King’s Plaza in Brooklyn before the festivities for some last minute things. I wore my Proenza Schouler-like top that I got in the Torrid 50% off clearance with my Jibri high-waisted flare skirt. I knew we’d be doing a lot of walking so I kept it cute and casual. We ended up spending way more time at the mall than planned so we were a bit late to FNO but we still had a blast in the end. I have more pictures to post from the night’s event but I’ll put them in a separate post later on.

Continuing on with the top trends for Fall 2010, up next we have the military trend. Now true, this look has been seen on the runways for last few years but this season, it has evolved to be more utilitarian, functional and understated rather than the extravagant styles we’ve seen in the past from designers like McQueen and Balmain. There’s less of the once coveted marching band jackets with shoulder detailing and more of the minimalism of a shirt dress. A lot of the pieces are much easier to wear and incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Cargo pants and shirt dresses in navy, camel and olive are key pieces as well as the aviator jacket.
What do you all think of the military trend? Are you over it?

One of my favorite things about the Fall 2010 Marc Jacobs show (besides the fact that the show itself was so freaking beautiful) was his play on proportions. Hems were longer, heels were shorter and silhouettes were chunkier. There were two looks in particular that I wanted to re-create and today was the perfect day to try one out. I got this sweater from Evans last winter but because of the large holes/shredded-like sections its actually perfect for this transitional weather we’re having right now. I wore it over my high-waist flare skirt from Jibri and kitten heels that I scored from Re/Dress while in New York.
I also tried out having glossy black lips for the day. I usually only pair my YSL gloss pur with my Kat von D lipstick but today I decided to go for the drama of black lips. By the time I took photos, it wasn’t as dramatic as it was originally but I still love the bold look. I’ll definitely be wearing this color on its own more often!

This is an outfit that I typically wouldn’t post because its so similar to the previous outfits posted, however this is a rare moment when my outfit consists of two colors other than black. That in itself is worth posting. I bought this gray jersey blazer from Torrid last month and realized it went perfectly with this pale yellow tank that I’ve had for a few years. It’s from Old Navy and has the perfect slouch that I’m always looking for. Of course, no outfit is complete these days without a floor skimming skirt. I do not exaggerate when I say I wear one at least five times a week. I have become that predictable.
Also I’m giving my big, curly Diana wig a rest and wearing some of my other ones. This long, curly one makes me feel like I need to be in front of a wind machine at all times therefore I pinned it back to make it less dramatic and keep it out of my face. Long hair, don’t care.

Its finally starting to feel like Fall is coming. In celebration of this, I broke out one of my favorite plaid shirts and paired it with my favorite maxi dress. I also finally wore these black ankle boots I was sent by Evans a while ago. They have studded and chained detailing on the back so they don’t compete with all of the other random metallics that I usually throw on my hands and arms.
As evidenced by this outfit and the previous one, I must add more black maxi dresses to my wardrobe asap. So perfect and so versatile.
